William H. HAYS

Low angle light is a near-constant theme in the linocuts of William Hays (William H. Hays).  Whether it is a rendition of sunlight raking over water, or the moon coming up, the opportunity for contrast is embraced in Hays’ prints.  The rural surroundings of his small-town life in Southern Vermont are the main inspiration in these colorful works.  Thanks to a meticulous approach to reductive methods of color relief printmaking, William Hays has, since 2012, constantly refined the effects of dusk and night, of snow and sunlight, and of all of nature’s changing moods.  In his work he reveals the enchantments of life in the Northeastern United States.
