Paula CAMPBELL

Paula Campbell sees the lighter side of life. Her intaglio prints, line etchings beautifully shaded with fine-grain color aquatints, render the visions of whimsy as they form in her mind. Rooted in visual cues from everyday life, pastries, buildings, fashion, or nature, Campbell twists reality to her very personal humorous, and elegant vision. The artist grew up in Chicago, Paris, and Munich, drawing en plein air with her mother in her teens and twenties. She took her first formal painting lessons at age 14 with Gianni Cilfone and was influenced by Impressionist paintings seen at the Art Institute of Chicago. She became friendly with a group of printmakers around the artist Audrey Niffenegger with whom she began making prints in 1987. Campbell teaches printmaking at the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, where she also creates her own prints.
