About this print, the artist writes: From the shore, these unremarkable 'black' birds can be seen dotted along the California coastline on almost every rock near the shore. But just grab a pair of binoculars and you can see what cormorants are REALLY like! The brilliant colors of the earth and sea are perfectly reflected in their plumage. The green and blue iridescent feathers have hints of both the sky and sea, while a sandy patch below their chin holds hints of both beach and sunrise, And those eyes! These Brandt's Cormorants mate for life, so the title is particularly apt.
