Ian PHILLIPS

Based in the middle of Wales, a few miles from the River Dyfi and the Welsh coast, Ian Phillips has created color linocuts and printed linocut reductions for more than two decades, long before the technique was well known.  His landscape compositions in which the Irish Sea coastline often features prominently, are compositionally expansive, even in smaller scales.  Phillips likes to carve out solid lines, either to create patterns, or to sketch larger flat areas, for which the mind’s eye fills in details.  He likes to revisit places of interest regularly, following long distance footpaths to find inspiration.  His atmospheric renditions are elegant and his colors saturated.  Since fall 2013 Phillips has also been a member of the collaborative which calls itself Pine Feroda.  Their large prints can also be discovered on this site.
