Fumiko TAKEDA

For a little over 25 years now, Fumiko Takeda (武田 史子) has created prints.  Born in Tokyo in 1963, she graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts’s graduate program in 1991.  As early as 1993 her etchings won her recognition, and she has dedicated most of her artistic energy to this technique.  Takeda’s etchings, which are printed in small editions, generally of just 30 impressions, mostly depict nature.  Her foliage, flowers and trees, as well as her birds, bees and bears are generally stages, orchestrated.  Man’s hand is detected in the glass domes that sometimes encase nature, or simply in the way the natural world is arranged in Takeda’s compositions.  With vivid imagination Fumiko Tadeda’s etchings, which are shaded with aquatint, and sometimes hand colored, make us travel to worlds full of wonder and discovery.  Her line is delicate, her grayscale subtle and deep and her printing, usually on shimmering chine-collé, is immaculate.
