Christian BOZON

At an early age Christian Bozon (born 1969 in Lons-le-Saunier) allowed the pleasure of creation to take hold of his life.  Without finishing his lycée, the artist enrolled in the Institut des Beaux-Arts in Besançon, a French city near his place of birth in the Alpine foothills.  Freshly graduated from art school, Bozon enlists as a volunteer at the Arts Center in Tétouan, Morocco, in order to fulfill his national service requirement.  In North Africa his attraction for color reveals itself in full.  Encounters with printmakers at that time also largely shift his attention away from painting.  By way of Seville, where Bozon learns the trade with Paco Aguilar, but also in Aix-en-Provence and Rabat, he become a printmaker.  From 1994 until 2014 Boson mostly lives and works in Malaga, before moving with his wife and children back to his native town.  Bozon’s prints are mostly constructed from superimpositions of color aquatints with touches of drypoint for accentuations.  Transparencies of layered colors as well as saturations and contrasts all contribute to make his abstracted compositions evocative of lights, places and situations the viewer seems to remember.  His is an art of the south, in which the zenithal light, somehow, has failed to flatten the landscape.  The depths of his colors seem endless.
